Aiming to change the narrative, Iyoria is about reconnecting the eldest members of the oldest living civilisation in the world to their lifeblood. That is the goal of Iyoria.
The proposed location is on Wangal Homeland in Eora Country, Iyoria is modern aged care built on tradition. A world first development, Iyoria creates a safe environment for Elders to rebuild connections to their traditions and the land by bringing together natural elements with state of the art aged care.
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Many global language groups arrived ‘downunder’ during some of history’s most extraordinary and turbulent times. Their arrival hugely impacted FIVE ancient Aboriginal Nations, their languages, knowledge and lifestyle systems. However, Aboriginal systems still remain embedded in the natural environment across NSW’s lands, waterways and skies today. And these areas continue to be held in the custodianship of Aboriginal Elders.
WHERE WE ARE NOW
250 years worth of unauthorised rebranding across Sydney’s landscapes, has caused huge disruption, displacement and disempowerment for the people of its five original Aboriginal nations. It is believed that the systematic decimation of traditional Aboriginal values & customs across these landscapes, has significantly impacted Aboriginal Elders' literal will to live.
